Highly efficient submersible pump
By providing a SQE constant pressure pack – borehole pump, Grundfos has helped Newcastle University’s School of Civil Engineering and Geosciences in constructing a borehole array, named Groundwater Engineering, Operation, Monitoring, Evaluation and Testing Laborato(RY) – abbreviated to GEOMETRY.
This array will be used as a practical teaching tool for the Universities Applied Hydrogeology MSc course. Six boreholes have been drilled to a depth of 50m, and have been arranged in a cruciform pattern with each borehole set at a different distance from the central pumping well.
The boreholes will be used to study borehole and aquifer hydraulic behaviour and monitor the local groundwater environment.
Rick Brassington, Visiting Professor of Hydrogeology said “The GEOMETRY Project has only been made possible by the generosity of companies such as Grundfos. I approached Grundfos as I have been impressed with the reliability of the pumps since I first used them when I was the Principal Hydrogeologist at North West Water in the early 1980XCHARXs and we set up testing equipment that included a Grundfos submersible. The second reason is that the SQ pump has the inbuilt self protection capability that means it is likely to withstand the onslaught from students pumping at different rates which could potentially burn out less robust motors.”
The Grundfos SQE is a highly efficient submersible pump, which has integrated dry running protection. The SQE constant water pressure system can be adjusted at the touch of a button, it’s easy to install and is virtually maintenance free, which made it ideal for this worthwhile project.
